Harald Thorud

Harald Thoerud is the Chief of Resource Mobilization at the International Development Law Organization (IDLO), the only intergovernmental organization exclusively dedicated to promoting the rule of law and sustainable development, based out of Rome, Italy.
Harald has been engaged in international development and political affairs for over 20 years. He spent more than 15 of those years with the United Nations, most recently serving as Head of Office, Norway, for the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Nordic Representation Office in Oslo from 2021 to 2024.
From 2017 to 2021, he worked as a Programme Management Officer with the Secretary-General’s Peacebuilding Fund in New York. Prior to that, he held various positions with UNDP in Pakistan, New York, Thailand, and Afghanistan.
Earlier in his career, Harald served as a Project Manager for the Norwegian Atlantic Committee in Oslo and as a Public Advocacy Advisor to the Ambassador of Afghanistan to the Nordic countries. He was also a Visiting Fellow at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) in Washington, D.C., and served as a ship diver in the Norwegian Coast Guard.
Harald holds a Master’s degree in Contemporary Politics from Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (Spain) and the University of Bath (UK). He has also completed studies at Bond University and Griffith University (Australia), Universidad de Belgrano (Argentina), and Harvard University (USA).
